I'm reading save our sleep to help put my 3 month old daughter in a routine and in the book it said having a sheep skin under the baby's bedding increases risk of sids; i was wanting to know if this is true.

Red Nose

Red Nose recommends that babies are placed to sleep on a firm, clean, well-fitting and flat mattress. Soft and padded objects have been known to increase the risk of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI) including SIDS when placed in a baby’s sleep environment.

These also take away from the firmness of the mattress.

Red Nose has this information on our web site:

“A soft mattress or sleeping surface can increase the risk of sudden unexpected infant death if baby rolls over onto the tummy……”

“Never put soft bedding under the bottom sheet, such as a sheepskin, as this makes the sleeping surface too soft.”
