- Advocate and engage with influential stakeholders to improve perinatal health, to drive change in recognition of stillbirth as a health and social problem, to reduce perinatal death and to support the needs of bereaved parents;
- In line with the organisation’s vision and purpose to bring positive impact and outcomes for its constituents in: public policy, practice and procedure, economic and social impact funding, support for bereaved families;
- Advocate, engage and drive change that improves the functions of research, education and bereavement support with regard to profile and funding;
- Lead and support the strategic positioning of the Red Nose brand to be one of high influence and impact in the field of healthy pregnancies and healthy children;
- Improve and develop service delivery within prescribed policies and guidelines for education services and organisational brand;
- Ensure information and resources are readily, freely and reliably available on prescribed platforms;
- Maintain and evaluate prescribed support for the professional development of industry professionals;

Red Nose Advocacy, Research and Change Overview
Red Nose has achieved remarkable success in reducing the number of preventable deaths from SUDI through its evidence-based safe sleeping public health program. The program was implemented in collaboration with researchers and health authorities in 1991, however, our vision determines that no death of a baby or child during pregnancy, infancy and childhood is acceptable. Our goal is ZERO preventable deaths from 20 weeks in pregnancy to four years of age.
Our advocacy role is focused on saving the lives of babies through prevention of deaths and learning from the experiences of bereaved families as well as evidence-based research. Our public health programs can be complemented by strong advocacy strategies that go further than raising awareness and are based on the need to influence, provoke, drive change and make a beneficial impact for individuals and on the public at large.
Red Nose also aims to reduce the impact of grief on families and the community.
We provides a wide range of evidence-based safe sleeping resources, information statements and education packages targeting new and expectant mothers, health care professionals and carers. As Australia’s largest independent provider of safe sleeping education we seek to have our evidence-based information and policy recommendations translated into practice through our presentations to both state and federal government and within the health care sector and child care industries. Red Nose also collaborates with key safety organisations including the ACCC, Standards Australia, and Children’s Hospitals nationally in the development of policy and standards in relation to nursery products.
Our advocacy role extends to health professionals who care for new and expectant parents and their babies and infants to ensure they are aware of the national policy and standards in the area of safe sleeping and child safety. Our work at all levels of the community ensures that our life-saving messages reach the Australian community, creating a strong support system for parents to live within. Red Nose also works closely with baby and infant product manufacturers to ensure products coming onto the market are safe and consistent with our evidence-based safe sleeping messages. Our work with retailers nationally aims to improve product safety and deliver consistent safe sleeping and child safety messaging.
Red Nose also work with media outlets nationally to ensure that content is consistent with our messaging and images used to support stories reflect safe sleeping and practice environments.
Red Nose together with our National Scientific Advisory Group are currently working on a new public health campaign, which will provide information on planning for a healthy pregnancy and information on how to reduce the risk of late-term stillbirth.
